Midtown has gone green. FreeFoods NYC is an upscale organic café and green caterer located at 18 West 45th Street (between 5th and 6th Avenues) that holds a commitment to using organic, local and sustainable ingredients. Items are taken off the menu when the ingredients are no longer in season and therefore less readily available in organic form.
The seasonal menus are designed by Chef Matthew Kenney (formerly of Pure Food and Wine and Commune) and regularly feature a selection of entrée salads, gourmet market table items, pressed sandwiches, signature soups, homemade organic baked goods and exotic smoothies and juices. Meat options abound with regularly available duck, fish, beef and poultry dishes. However, the menu also features a variety of vegetarian, vegan and even daily raw options to please people with specific dietary concerns.

Ordered an hour early to ensure delivery at specific time for a client meeting. My office is one block away. When the food was 15 minutes late, I called to inquire & was assured it was "on the way." When the food was 1/2 hour late, I called to cancel and they couldn't even locate my order. Was appaled at the unapologetic response, just kept telling me they had a lot of orders - I don't care! Never ordering from them again - HORRIBLE customer service.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE SERVICE! I waited AN HOUR AND A HALF for my food and did not receive it! DO NOT place a deilvery order with this place if you want to eat your meal the same day. Horrible - I'm extremely disappointed!

HORRIBLE Delivery Service. Why post 25-40 min delivery time and make people wait over an hour for their meals? I called to find out where my meal was, only to be told "Oh I think it left"...you think? 20 mins AFTER the food was supposed to arrive you tell me you THINK? I ordered my meal at 11:23am and it arrived 12:37pm. 74 mins is a big difference from 40. All I ordered was a BTLT sandwich which consists of: Free-range smoked turkey, butter lettuce, crispy turkey bacon, basil aioli on ciabatta. However when I received the sandwich, which is normally slightly warm, not only was it very cold but there was no “crispy turkey bacon” to be found. I received no apology from the delivery guy either. As a pregnant woman, this "service" is completely unacceptable.

Absolutely horrible experience. They lied after one hr of waiting (est 25-40 mins) and said food was on the way when in fact it hadnt even been made. The whole process took an hour and 45 mins and they refused to directly cancel my order. Waste of time.

Unlike other reviews noted, food came fast (within 20 minutes, expected was 25-40). Portions are on the smaller side - I think you need 2 to make a meal. That being said, food was delicious and healthy tasting - just what I was looking for.

Horrible service. I placed an order at 12.17pm. I called them at 1.55pm and they don't take my name, or my order number. They just say "oh, yeah, Fifth Ave. I went out a long time ago". I wait another 30mins then call back, still no food. They proceed to tell me that they left the order with the message center (they didn't and they have no record of a signature), then refuse to a) credit my credit card or b) send another order. HORRIBLE SERVICE!! DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM

I want to like FreeFood. I really do, but unfortunately two disappointments means no mas for me. The only reason that I have given this restaurant two stars is because their Green Juice is serviceable. I have ordered lunch from them twice. Basically disappointed across the board both times. Last order the marinated cucumbers were mushy, and by mushy I mean they had been sitting around for more than a day and were extremely over salted. They were inedible. One bite and into the garbage. I called the restaurant. They were very apologetic, but offered no adjustment to the bill, we had ordered lunch for the team so it was over $120. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food, so we gave another them another try. Completely disappointed across the board. Salad portion for the "Create your Own" were very small. Ordered a side of the marinated cucumbers again, they were inedible again. Spicy black bean soup was marginal at best, and definitely not spicy. I really want to like this place, as I am trying to eat vegan and their juice is good. It just is not happening. I would recommend you look elsewhere for a salad and a healthy soup.

Waited over 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hours for my deilvery. I called the restaurant to ask where it was, and I was told there are 10 delivery guys and they have no idea who had my food. Did not offer me an apology or a discount. And once it arrived - the sandwich was horrible. Worst lunch in ages.

Although the food is decent, beware of the wait time. I placed an order for ASAP delivery when the estimated wait time was 25-40 minutes. Two hours later, I still had yet to receive my order. I kept calling the restaurant and they kept promising the food would be delivered in 5 or 10 minutes. Didn't happen.

Love the selection - POOR SERVICE. An hour after ordering (with a wait time of 25-40minutes advertised) I was told 'it's going out the door now, they were just waiting on the juice.' Yes I ordered ONE PRESSED JUICE, ONE WHEAT GRASS SHOT AND PITA CHIPS...how does that take one hour? And the worst part, the unapologetic woman I talked with said "Yes ma'am we say 25-40 minutes that's about an hour..' Um..that's some fuzzy math there GW. Then she hung up on me. Such stellar customer service. I think I'm just going to give up on Free Foods and make the extra 10 minute journey to Liquiteria in the morning. And I really wanted this place to work for me!!

The food is delicious, but the only reason I use seamlessweb is for the delivery. If you have all day to wait on the food, then this is the restaurant to order from. The last time I ordered from the them, the seamlessweb confirmation said it would take 25-40 minutes. I called them, and they said because it was busy lunch time, it would take 45-60 minutes, which is fine and understandable. The food didn't arrive until 86 minutes later with no explanation, and I'm only 5 short blocks away from them. It was nice knowing them.

I ordered the raw lasagna. Literally three strips of zucchini, a half of the bottom of a tomato, then three more strips of zucchini. So little sauce almost non existent. I really am going to have to order a second lunch

Most items are a bit pricy however the quality makes up for it. Everything is organic. I tried the TBLT, it is literally one of the BEST sandwiches I have ever eaten but also very healthy. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

The service at this restaurant is terrible. Not only do their deliveries take far longer than the estimated time, but in my past two orders, they have taken an hour to deliver an incomplete order (which took another hour to be rectified) or told me that they were out of my food choice after I waited 55 minutes. Do not order from this restaurant until they can figure out how to improve service.

The food quality is fine, but it's expensive for what it is. For example, a veggie burrito that's about the size of a Taco Bell burrito, but for $11, yogurt parfaits for $6.50 and smoothies for $9. Spend your money elsewhere.

Luckily I ordered the raw lasagna, so the 60 minutes it took for my order to arrive didn't make it cool down any further. The lasagna was good, definitely made with fresh ingredients, however the portion was TINY for $12. I would estimate the overall size to be equal to about 3 decks of cards stacked on top of one another. For over $15 including tax and delivery tip, I could have gone downstairs to the deli in my building and gotten two huge slices (at 6.95 each). The portions are much bigger, but less tasty. If anyone at FreeFoods reads these comments, I'd be willing to pay about $8 for the piece of lasagna that I received. Make it bigger and charge $12, or adjust the price to reflect the size portion you receive.

Everytime I order early in the morning for a 12noon delivery I never receive the order until 12:40pm which is horrible. Everytime I have to give a call to see where my order is. I'm always informed it's on the way but it takes another 25 minutes before I received it. Very disappointed about the service. Most times I try not to ordered unless my company has them on the group order for the day.

I love the food at FreeFoods but I don't rely on their delivery. I placed an order at 1:03 and it's 2:27 and I still haven't received my food. I called twice. The first time the person said that the order was on its way. A pure lie. The second time, I was on hold for 5 minutes and then I was told that they didn't know what happened to my order. They were not apologetic at all. They have no sense of customer service. I hope I get my order before dinner time.

the prices are unconscionable and there aren't that many good full-on vegetarian options that aren't raw. However their 7-green juice IS wonderful, as are their baked goods--if you want a very good vegan brownie, go here

I just spent 30 minutes chasing down my delivery. Frankly, if I had this kind of time to dedicate to my food, I would be cooking it myself instead of freezing outside waiting for a delivery person who called to say he was downstairs when he was nowhere near. Horrible customer service. They offered to replace my order (which I accepted because I was famished by this time) which they told me would be sent out right away. Unfortunately, Freefoods has the worst delivery service out of any of the restaurants I have ordered from on seamlessweb because their food is very good. Today my order took 2 hours and 4 minutes to be delivered; and this is not the first time I have waited so long. When I called to see if my food was on it's way, the phone line was busy for about 20 minutes. I understand there are some days that are busier than others, but at the very least I would expect a courtesy phone call to give me the option of ordering from a different restaurant if they are too backeed up to serve customers in a timely manner. So, if you are willing to possibly wait over 2 hours for your lunch, then my all means, please order. but if you're hungry, this is not the place to order from.

Food is amazing and lots of variety for organic, vegetarian, vegan palates. Smoothies are great and unique, if a little overpriced. Delivery is usually quick and accurate, sometimes really busy at lunch for such a small place to handle.

I am extremely disappointed with the service from Freefoods, especially the way in which the “management” staff handles complaints. Complaint #1: received delivery a day earlier than what was requested. Per management “people don’t normally order lunch at 10:45 in the morning for next day”. Well, Michael, you should let Seamlessweb know that you and your staff are not capable of handling future delivery dates. Complaint #2: Ordered coconut water and received a “pink” liquid. This happens twice. The coconut water was actually rancid! I called and again spoke to management and was told that no one else complained. He said that the coconut came from Thailand and that’s the color of their coconut water. Again, Michael is wrong. According to Produce Oasis (http://www.produceoasis.com/Items_folder/Fruits/young-coconuts.asp) you should Avoid drinking the water or eating the meat from a young coconut that is even slightly pink on the inside. And guess what, Michael admitted that the meat of the coconut is used in their other recipes. I rate Freefoods a Zero for customer service. They did not even apologize for their mistakes or for sending us drinks that has gone rancid! My entire office has crossed them off our restaurant’s list.

The management at this chop shop is absolutely useless (including their 52nd st branch). used to work 1 street away and food took no less than 90 mins the couple of times I ordered. They don't keep their delivery guy's number so can never give an ETA. Refused to take a request to switch the bread on my sandwhich. Seems like a pretty basic customer service flaw to not accomodate a bread request. I could get over all of the above if they at least had the courtesy to be polite on the phone. No such luck

I ordered a slice of the raw/vegan pizza and it was extremely small. Probably not enough for anyone to eat for lunch. It tasted really good though. Delivery took about an hour although it was supposed to be 15-30 mins

The WORST delivery service, EVER! I keep giving them a try because I like to eat organic food, but they keep screwing up the order. To top it off, they are perpetually late in delivering. It took them way over an hour to deliver, and the delivery guy couldn't even find my high rise apt building! Just skip delivery and go straight to FreeFoods to enjoy their food. It's not worth the hassle of delivery!

I am so fed up with the service from FreeFoods. Granted they make ok food, but I can't stand having to wait for the delivery-guy for 5-10 minutes in the lobby of my building. This has happened to me on several occasions, and all the delivery guy, and management ever say is "we are sorry" -- well, that sorry does not reverse the time that I lose from my very time-sensitive work, while waiting for the delivery guy. I order food in precisely because I have tight time constraints, only to have to wait for their delivery guy who calls and says he is in the lobby when he's still a good 10 minutes away. I am very very fed up with the terrible service.

Reviews are accurate -- delivery is painfully slow. Mine took 1.5 hours. Food was good and creative, though portions are fairly small. I would order again, but probably better to pick up than have delivered.
